Call to register for a class well in advance of the dates listed, and then send the release form and fee to address listed above. Classes will be canceled if there have been no registrations (by the registration date listed) or the minimum registration requirements are not met. If cancellation occurs due to lack of registrations, any pre-paid fees will be returned. Turn in registration forms and fees to the NE Range School Office in sealed envelope addressed to Comm. Ed. The public and students are welcome to register for any activity or class in the Media Center at NE Range School, M-Th from 3:00 – 6:00 p. What’s Happening this Winter
Walking at the NEW Northeast Range School
January-March M, T, Th 3-8p & W 2-6p
ALL Adult Community Members are welcome to come and enjoy the NEW Northeast Range School. Step out of the Northern Minnesota weather, and walk the hallways in a safe and secure environment. All visitors will be required to wear a Walking Pass while in the building. This new walking program is being implemented as security feature for OUR new after school programming. We would love to see you visiting OUR NEW School. We appreciate you helping us keep OUR students and school safe. Please register and pay the annual fee in the Media Center M, T, Th 3-6p or W 2-6p. All Registered Community Members will receive a Walking Pass. Annual Walking Fee: Single $10.00, Family $15.00, Group 25.00. This School Building will be open to walkers: M, T, Th 3-8p & W 2-6p.
Dance Fitness Workout Program
January 9, 16, 23 ∙ February 6, 13, 27 ∙ March 5, 12, 19
It is time to DANCE and get in shape. Dance fitness programs are the new craze in-group workout programs. This workout will challenge you mentally and physically, while you enjoy every minute of it. It is time to get a group of friends together for a fun workout. Get out of the house; learn some new dance moves while getting in shape. This class will use video technology with a class guide to help set the pace according to the groups’ skill levels. This introductory class will have 3 sessions each month. Register by January 5th or come when you are ready to join. Time: 6-7p in the school cafeteria. Cost: $20 per month. Daycare available for an additional cost per child
Yoga Flow – Yoga for Beginners (Adult)
Tuesdays, February 7, 14, 21, 28 and March 6
A beginner’s class designed to teach you a graceful practice connecting our movement with our breath for a meditative flow. No pretzel or intimidating poses, just fundamental yoga stretching presented in a flowing class that is easy to follow. This is a peaceful slow paced class combined with a guided meditation to nurture your body, mind and spirit. Class is for people of all ages regardless of your physical conditioning. Open your heart and calm your mind with yoga. Mats are provided by the instructor, bring your own mat or purchase a premium mat from the instructor. Class is taught by certified yoga instructor Nancy Larson. Call Nancy with questions at 218-750-7514. Minimum of (8) participants are needed to hold the class. Register by February 1st. Family Swimming and Pool Parties

Family Time (Students & Families)
January – March, Sunday 2:00-4:00 p
Bring the whole family down to the NEW Northeast Range School and have a fun afternoon. The Media Center, Gymnasium and Swimming Pool will be open for all to enjoy. Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Date: Sunday (program will not be on Sundays when school is closed for break or during poor winter weather) * Time: 2-4p * Cost: $3.00 per person/$15.00 max per immediate family
Morning Swim (Adult)
January – March, Monday – Friday 6:30-7:30 a
Men and Women are invited to come and enjoy the beautiful school pool every Monday thru Friday morning. M, W, F morning: aerobics, laps, walking and casually enjoy the pool (limited lanes available for lap swimming). T & Th morning: pool open to lap swimming. Contact Jean (827-3223) for additional information and to register. No class on days when school is closed or during poor winter weather. Dates: Mon-Fri: Jan-March. Time: 6:30 to 7:30am. Ages: Adult. Place: Northeast Range School Swimming Pool. Punch Card Cost: 12 swims $28, 20 swims $38 or $4 per day.
Evening Swim (Adult)
NER Community Education is looking for a lifeguard who is interested in working the evening swim program. Competitive wages, call for more information.
Northeast Range Media Center (Adult)
January – March: M, T & Th 6-8p
The Media Center will be available for ALL Adult Community Members to use M, T, Th 6-8p (computers, board games, movies, books and computer assistance available). An annual fee is requested to help cover the cost of the Media Center Guide. Registered Guests will receive a Media Pass after payment and paperwork is completed. Register in the Media Center M, T & Th 3-8p or W 2-6p. Annual Media Center Fee: Single $10.00, Family $15.00, Group 25.00.
Northeast Range Media Center (7-12 grade)
Students are encouraged to get together with their classmates and study or just hang out with their friends (computers, board games, movies and books available for student use). Study groups and students 7-12 are welcome to use the media center M, T, Th 3-6p and W 2-6p (media center available to late bus students until 8p M, T, Th). See media center message board for late bus schedule.
Northeast Range Media Center (4-6 grade)
Students are encouraged to come to the media center M, T, Th 3-6p and W 2-6p for help with homework and class projects. Must have permission from parents. Please see Jennifer Kaufenberg in the media center for more information.
Northeast Range After School Groups and Clubs (K-12)
CLUB Sign-up anytime during Media Center Hours M-Th 3-6p, see Youth Activity Coordinator (Jennifer Kaufenberg). Current Club List: Art Club (K-6 & 7-12), Photography and Film Club (7-12), Drama and Improv Club (7-12), Chess and Stacking Club (K-6 & 7-12), other clubs to be added if students show interest or make request.
Enrichment Program(LR/K-6)
Registration: anytime during Media Center Hours M-Th 3-6p, see Youth Activity Coordinator (Jennifer Kaufenberg). This vibrant learning program will provide a safe and secure environment for LR/K-6 grade students after school. Six (6) registrations are required to offer this program.
After School “SPROUTS” Program Schedule M, T, Th, F (3-6p): 3:00 Students meet in cafeteria, 3:15 Physical Activity Time (playground, gym, group games), 3:45 Snack Time, 4:00 Quiet Work Time (homework, coloring, reading, stories), 4:45 Break Time, 5:00 Enrichment Activity Time (planned activity around fine and applied arts & cultural enrichment), 6:00 Dismissal.Schedule W (2-5p): Schedule is the same only starting at 2:00 and Enrichment Activity is from 4:00-5:00.
Nature Outing (Students, Adults and Community Groups)
Let Community Education Plan your next school or group Nature Outing with Herbalist, Tracy Cersine. Enjoy a Great Fall Day walking through the woods. Activities can be adjusted to fit any age group or skill level. Call Community Education for more information. Date and time to be determined.
Plant Walk & Herbalist Methods: Go for a walk in Babbitt’s beautiful woods and learn to identify plants and possible uses for them. Focus will be on how herbalists use plants to treat bee stings and cuts, as well as, how to make teas for various ailments and some wild foods found in nature. In addition, there will be simple instruction on terms herbalists use and how to apply them. Cost starting at $3 per person (includes lunch or snack).
Make Your Own Herbal Salve: Go for a short walk in the woods to collect a few plants that will be used to make a natural salve. Return to the classroom and make the salve with a combination of other simple ingredients. Participants will go home with a large tin of homemade herbal salve. Cost starting at $3 per person (includes snack and cost of supplies).
Red Cross Get Trained: Baby Sitting
What you need to know and what every parent wants in a safe and responsible babysitter!
Designed for 11 to 15 year olds, the Babysitter’s Training course can help you—
Care for children and infants. Be a good leader and role model. Make good decisions and solve problems. Keep the children you baby-sit and yourself safe. Handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents. Write resumes and interview for jobs.

Red Cross Get Trained: Pet First Aid
From basic pet owner responsibilities, like spaying, neutering and administering medications to managing breathing or cardiac emergencies and preparing for disasters, Pet First Aid courses offers information and advice pet owners can trust. Topics include managing urgent care situations, such as car accidents; wounds; electrical shock; and eye, foot and ear injuries. Choose from three course offerings including Dog First Aid, Cat First Aid, and Cat and Dog First Aid. Date and time to be determined. Red Cross Get Trained:Community Frist Aid and CPR
First Aid: Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts and scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies. CPR Adult: Participants learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults. CPR Child and Infant: Participants learn how to prevent, recognize and respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in infants and children under 12. Date and time to be determined. Red Cross Get Trained:Lifeguard Program
If you’re 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or challenging career that’s in demand, the Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start. Northeast Range Community Education has immediate lifeguard openings. Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid and CPR/AED. Courses are available with a focus on a variety of environments, including pools, waterfronts, waterparks and shallow water attractions. Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements. Course length: 30 – 37 hours; 2 year CPR/AED certification and 3 year Lifeguarding certification. Myofascial Release Therapy
Sarah Schmidt, RN, will be instructing this alternative therapy class. Myofascial Release Therapy is a hands-on, one-on-one, therapy for the treatment of chronic pain, restrictions (scar tissue) and /or lack of range of motion. The therapy works with the connective tissue of the body. Connective tissue is a tough fibrous and gel structure that holds everything in the body in place. If the gel dries up or the fibrous area becomes thickened then normal function is reduced and pain may occur. The therapy is good for people wishing to regain a feeling of wellness that comes with easing of restrictions or pain. Others may find a benefit from the therapy if they are trying to avoid surgery or reduce medications. The class will describe how Myofascial Release Therapy works and time is allowed for demonstrations. Class last approximately 1 and 1/2 hours. Cost: $3.00 Registration Fee. Intro to Feng Shui
Christy Mesojedec of Embarrass will instruct introduction to Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is the study of how to arrange your environment to enhance the quality of your life. Learn the history, three basic principles of Feng Shui, and how to apply Feng Shui wisdom to your home. A minimum of 6 patrons are needed to hold this course. Please call Community Education to Register. Additional Feng Shui classes will be added if there is interest. Date: to be determined. Intro to Reiki
Christy Mesojedec of Embarrass will be instructing this alternative therapy course.
Reiki (ray-kee) uses hands on therapy that has been shown to provide easing of pain and discomfort, stress and anxiety, allowing relaxation and aiding in the healing process. This class will give you the basic understanding of Reiki healing, Ki energy, chakra system and learn about different levels of Reiki. A minimum of 6 patrons are needed to hold this course. January Activities
After School Movie: Cars 2
Register by Tuesday, January 17th
Stay after school and “GO TO THE MOVIES.” The cost is $3 and will include popcorn, a beverage and a treat. Everyone must register for the movie by January 17th to see the show. (10) Registrations are needed for the show to go on. Students will NOT be permitted to attend showing without parental signed release form or permission slip. Bring a pillow or blanket if you want to sit on the floor. All ages are welcome – students under the age of 6 need to be accompanied by an adult or responsible sibling. After School Fine & Applied Arts: Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.
Celebrate Martin Luther King Day with a fun project, while learning a little history. Come ready to have fun and do something new. We will make a project that will be displayed at Northeast Range School. A healthy snack will be provided. Dates: Tuesday, January 17th. Time: 3:15 – 4:30. Ages: 1st thru 5th. Place: Media Center. Cost: $3.00.

Celebrate I Love to Read Month

Students Pr/K-3rd grade are invited to the Northeast Range Library on Mondays afterschool for story time. Celebrate I love to Read – Jump into a Good Book! Free Activity.
Family Bowling & Lunch (February)

Something fun for Sunday afternoon – Bowling and lunch (build your own sub, chips, soda and a treat). All ages welcome: a responsible High School student or an Adult must accompany Children under the age of 8. Mail completed release form and fee to Community Education or return to school office. Improve Workshop and Performance
Register by February 1st
This workshop will spend the day learning the craft of improv. We will start with a short orientation and warm-ups to get to know everyone. Improv players of all skill levels are invited to come and have fun. Activities will include short-form improv games and exercises that will help each player establish skills and techniques for basic improv sketches. In the evening, the Improv Group will be ready to perform for the public. This show will be similar to the TV show “Who’s Line?” Date: Feb 25th * Time: Noon-6p (workshop) & 7p (Improv Show) Cost: $15 (includes dinner) Need a minimum of (8) players to hold the workshop and show! Register early so we have time to advertise for the show and collect door prizes. This is going to be FUN!

Musically Different

March is National Music in Our Schools Month. This music workshop will provide students and adults of all ages a chance to listen to something new and different. Everyone please, bring one song to share (on a flash drive or cd), be creative and have fun. Date: Tuesday March 6th. Time: 3:15-4:45p. Place: meet in the cafeteria, after snack go to the Auditorium. Cost: 3.00.

Letter from the Coordinator
I am very excited to welcome the community to the NEW Northeast Range Community Education Program. Everyone is invited to come, see the school renovations, and check out the Media Center and Library. We are continually trying to add more classes and other opportunities that enhance our community. Right now we need community members to share their talents and skills by instructing adult and student classes. Please consider giving something back to OUR community and instruct a course.
